Similar to its underlying basic beer Bacchus, the Bacchus Kriekenbier was not designed to be a gastronomic or culinary beer.Like the Bacchus siblings Oud Bruin and Frambozenbier, this beer is in continuous production. It may be slightly more difficult to get hold of in supermarkets than the other well-known brews from the Kasteel range. De Cuvée du Chateau is the crown jewel within the Kasteel range and has been brewed since 2010. It found its inspiration in the subterranean cellars of Ingelmunster Castle. After ten years of maturation, bottles of Kasteel Donke ... Framboise is a related, less traditional Belgian beer, fermented with raspberries instead of sour cherries. Kriek is also related to gueuze, which is not a fruit beer but is also based on refermented lambic beer. Some breweries, like Liefmans, make "kriek" beers based on oud bruin beer instead of lambic. However, Bacchus Kriekenbier is a good table companion and makes a good recipe ingredient, particularly in the preparation of, for example, a banana sorbet containing Bacchus kriekenbier and/or a dark chocolate. Kasteel Barista Chocolate Quad is the successor to Kasteel Winter, a seasonal beer that has been discontinued. Kriek lambic is a style of Belgian beer, made by fermenting lambic with sour Morello cherries. [1] [2] Traditionally " Schaarbeekse krieken" (a rare Belgian Morello variety) from the area around Brussels are used. As the Schaarbeek type cherries have become more difficult to find, some brewers have replaced these (partly or completely) with other varieties of sour cherries, sometimes imported. This is similar to the "Appellation d'Origine Contrôlée" used in France. This accreditation will guarantee the origin and quality of food and beverages produced under a specific name and in a specific region. Bacchus Kriekenbier is served in the same glass used for Bacchus Oud Vlaams Bruin and Bacchus Frambozenbier. A stylish, vintage-inspired glass that is reminiscent of a gueuze glass. Traditionally, kriek is made by breweries in and around Brussels using lambic beer to which sour cherries (with the pits) are added. [3] A lambic is a sour and dry Belgian beer, fermented spontaneously with airborne yeast said to be native to Brussels; the presence of cherries (or raspberries) predates the almost universal use of hops as a flavoring in beer. [4] Similar to its underlying basic beer Bacchus Oud Bruin, this kriekenbier can be stored for a while and will improve.Mild in taste, first sip gives a slightly sour aroma, which soon gives way to a pronounced sweetness in combination with modest touches of wood and nuts. Fermentation identical to that of Bacchus Oud Vlaams Bruin; mixed fermentation and matured in oak barrels. Ingredients

A traditional kriek made from a lambic base beer is sour and dry as well. The cherries are left in for a period of several months, causing a refermentation of the additional sugar. Typically no sugar will be left so there will be a fruit flavour without sweetness. There will be a further maturation process after the cherries are removed. As this beer is an accredited regional product, it is a perfect combination with a number of characteristic Flemish regional dishes. Up to the beer lover to experiment and find out what suits. The finish is mainly sweet although the touches of wood are still discernible. Sweet and sour form a perfect harmony. As with many other beers, storage conditions play a major role. Cool, dry and dark is always the message. Bacchus Frambozenbier (Framboise) is similar to Bacchus Kriekenbier as the base for both fruit beers is Bacchus Oud Vlaams Bruin. Fresh raspberries are added to the beer which will continue to mature before leaving the brewery ...However, with St. Louis fruit beers, the fruit is maturing on gueuze-lambiek instead of Oud Vlaams Bruin.
