About this deal

Is there anything you've learned or taken from other writers you've worked with in recent years that helped you when writing this book?

J2 causes both outrage and adulation. Religious zealots either love or hate the show, angry politicians worry about its influence on the nation, and members of the scientific community fear the implications of cloning a human being at all, let alone the Son of God.Some people may be turned off by the monochromatic color palette, however Murphy wields this well. He provides variety in the white space and in the remarkable details. Content Warning Murphy started working professionally before graduating, on titles such Star Wars and Noble Causes, before moving onto various projects for Dark Horse Comics. [1] Deuteragonist: Chris might be the most important character in-universe, but he's really more of a plot device than a character for the first part of the story. Thomas is arguably the real protagonist.

Plea of Personal Necessity: Slate begs for Thomas to spare him right before he gets thrown under the tires of an oncoming semi. He has also had a run on Hellblazer [2] and, also at Vertigo, he is the artist on Joe the Barbarian, with writer Grant Morrison. [3] Break the Cutie: Almost everyone in the story who isn't Slate gets this at some point. Most notably Gwen (who at one point nearly gets Driven to Suicide) and Dr. Epstein.Chris undertakes the most radical transformation, absorbing what’s being kept from him, and learning from his first failed rebellion how to ensure a second succeeds. Needless to say, there are none of the desperately hoped-for miracles, at least not beyond contrivance, and Murphy is exceptional at conveying the dismay and confusion of the young Chris. Driven to Suicide: Gwen has a dream that she jumps off the balcony of her room at the psychiatric hospital after escaping J2, but is saved by what she believes is an angel. This leads to her renewed efforts to rescue Chris from J2. As a collective group, those of us who don't believe in God need to stop acting like belligerent teens and start acting like the intelligent, thoughtful people we claim to be. The next time that Jehovah's Witness is standing on your doorstep, maybe you should offer them a bottle of water before sending them on their way? While extraordinary, Murphy falters just before the final hurdle. The book ends in very biblical manner with revelations, although these make sense, and a slight leap into the future for some consequences, but before that Chris’ development, until then so believable, has come shuddering to a halt. He’s the dark mirror image of what his mother was when only slightly older. In 2005 he published his first original graphic novel, Off Road, which went on to win an American Library Association Award for young adults. [1]

Don't get me wrong -- I've never been more satisfied with anything else I've ever done. But it's also taught me that being a writer/penciller/inker combo isn't for everyone.

OK? Now imagine what could possibly go wrong with a teenaged girl giving birth on TV...Teen Mom? Yup. Times a billion. Usually of a group of religious zealots hoarding guns don't have to wait too long before they meet their maker... 'round these here parts.

Ultimately the premise of the story could have been something really thought provoking and different but it was very one sided and ironically all independent thought is smothered by the author's obvious opinions. He does not ask you to think, he tells you what to think. Adams, Tim (July 16, 2020). "Batman: White Knight Universe Expands With Harley Quinn Spinoff". Comic Book Resources . Retrieved December 8, 2022. How has your process in working on the book differed from how you work when drawing a script by another writer?

Although this story has some interesting ideas, and it roots in some real problems of religion and mass media, the main characters are not strong enough or well developed to support a story of the level of the criticism it attempts to make. Chris is accuesed of being preachy and this is how the story feels sometimes. (May it be noted that I am an active Atheist who shares almost all of the ideas Chris preaches about, but they are not quite fitted in the story). Also the general audience opinion of the whole show is never adressed, and we never see a moderate religious person, all of them are one dimensional characters.
