Description

The Sharp Q7300U series of 4K TVs is the one member of the company's Q-series that does come with the Roku TV platform built-in (the Sharp Q7000U and Q7500 series do not). The bonus here is that they’re HDR-compatible and come with a beefier twin 10W speaker set-up. They're currently only available as open-box models but that brings some possibilities of real bargains. That said, it’s worth bearing in mind that to upgrade to the 4K models is only a matter of a few dollars at the 50in size and - a relatively small price to pay for four times the pixels and HDR support. The 48-inch C3 isn’t markedly different to the C2 it replaces (which is just about still available for roughly 10 per cent less), and at its launch price, that might have been a problem. However, some months and several discounts into its life, the OLED48C3 looks like excellent value and is notably short of serious challengers. For class-leading picture performance, the Sharp 50FJ2K features Dolby Vision. This cinema-inspired HDR format recreates the picture’s true colour and brightness as envisaged by the director. The TV is also compatible with HDR10 and HLG formats, meaning that all of your sources get to enjoy a picture boost. 4K resolution optimises the picture detail from premium streaming services, UHD Blu-ray and most of the latest games.

Testing a TV is a long and complex process because a modern TV simply does so much. Not only does it need to handle a variety of content resolutions – standard-def, 1080p, 4K and sometimes 8K – and both standard dynamic range and high dynamic range (the latter in a number of formats), all of which need to be specifically tested, it also has a sound system with various advanced settings and a full smart platform. A TV is an all-in-one device in the best sense, but that also makes it a challenging review proposition. While a certain type of AV fan will always be drawn to the greater light stability and pixel-level light control you get with OLED TVs, the Samsung QE50QN90B’s combination of higher HDR-friendly brightness, peerless (by LCD standards) light controls and impressive image flexibility ensures it has more than enough charm of its own to make a convincing case for itself. Especially for people looking for a TV able to take on a bright room environment. Bluetooth is a great feature for a smart TV, as it allows you to connect wireless audio devices; like speakers, headphones, hearing aids, or other peripheral devices like keyboards. Can I pair my phone to my smart TV? Prices valid in stores (all including VAT) until close of business on 29th November 2023. (Some of these web prices are cheaper than in-store, so please mention that you've seen these offers online.)Whatever you go for, you’re going to love all that extra screen space. So, whether you're settling down with the family to watch Disney's Encanto, or gearing up to binge-watch HBO's The Last of Us, our experts have found the best 50-inch smart TVs to suit all budgets, up next. Best 50-inch smart TVs of 2023 at a glance: Of these two 'dynamic' HDR formats, Dolby Vision is by far the most prevalent, both in terms of TVs and content, and if you have to choose between one and the other, that's the one we'd recommend. That said, you can now buy TVs from the likes of Philips and Panasonic that support both Dolby Vision and HDR10+. The Omni QLED’s performance is markedly more assured, considered and authentically cinematic than expected at this level, now or in the past. It clearly isn’t up there with the latest OLED models, such as the LG C3 above and Sony 48A90K below, but if those are out of reach this is an excellent compromise that will give you authentically cinematic entertainment for very little money (and effort). The latest model is no different. To put it plainly, there’s no better-specified TV available at this size. While neither MLAnor QD-OLEDtechnology has made it below 55 inches yet, the C3 uses the best 48-inch OLED panel currently available from sister company LG Display, and it's crisp and well-defined, producing an image that’s really solid and has a three-dimensional feel. In fact, the increased pixel density of having a 4K resolution squeezed into a 48-inch space means this smaller C3 looks significantly sharper than its 65-inch C3 sibling. The key TV battleground right now is gaming specs, and the 48-inch C3 very much has the high ground here too.

High Dynamic Range is a really big deal, and certainly something you should consider before buying your next TV. Thankfully, the Sony XR-48A90K – Sony’s flagship OLED for 2022 is still a great alternative for the company's A95K and new A95L QD-OLEDs, which aren't available below 55 inches. It’s important to preface this by saying that we’ve not reviewed many Sharp TVs at What Hi-Fi? over recent years and all the advice we have to offer is based purely on specs, design, on-paper features and our vast experience in the TV sector. Some of the best 50-inch smart TVs improve your viewing experience in ways that couldn’t have been predicted a few years ago. Upgrading to one of the best TVs that also supports 4K resolution is a real game-changer; whether you're a sports fan or gamer, movie watcher or streaming binger. But, did you know most TV shows, movies, games and streaming services are optimized for larger screen sizes?Unlike some TVs, the Sharp’s Smart TV system is easy to use. Apps are clearly displayed in tile format and you can search by title, actor or director and get unbiased results across the top channels. Supplied with a clearly labelled Sharp/Roku remote, controlling this Smart TV is easy, too. Choosing a 50-inch TV offers several benefits based on personal preferences and specific needs. Firstly, the screen size of a 50-inch TV is larger compared to smaller options, providing a more immersive viewing experience. This larger display allows for a greater level of detail and visual impact, enhancing your enjoyment of movies, TV shows, and sports.

Currently, three HDMI connections is standard on budget and mid-range TVs, while four is the norm for premium models. Here’s a rough guide to give you an idea of the minimum distance you should have from your TV when viewing HD content: Prime Video, Netflix, Disney+, YouTube, Google Play Movies, iPlayer, ITV Hub, and more are all available through Android TV.
